Abstract

Abstract - Hypertension is a chronic condition that requires effective self-care management to prevent long-term complications. Social support and motivation play essential roles in achieving optimal self-care; however, both factors may vary depending on individual characteristics such as marital status, occupation, and educational background. Based on the results of the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), the prevalence of high blood pressure in East Java Province was 35%. The prevalence of hypertension increases with age. The estimated number of people aged 18 years and older in East Java Province is approximately 89,343, with 48.8% being male and 51.2% female. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between social support and motivation with self-care management in hypertension patients at the Primary Clinic of the Mobile Brigade Education Center, Watukosek, Pasuruan Regency. This study employed quantitative observational analytic methods with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 36 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires on social support, motivation, and self-care management. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed that most respondents had moderate social support (61.1%) and moderate motivation (75.0%). The level of self-care management was predominantly in the moderate category (80.6%). The Spearman test results showed a significant relationship between social support and self care management (p = 0.006, p < 0.05). In addition, there was a very strong relationship between motivation and self-care management (p = 0.000, p < 0.05). Crosstab findings showed that respondents with higher social support and higher motivation tended to have better self-care abilities. Social support and motivation are significantly associated with self-care management in hypertension patients. This study is expected to provide information to the public, especially hypertension patients, about the importance of social support and motivation in self-care management. Healthcare workers are advised to strengthen education, mentoring, and family involvement to improve the effectiveness of self-care in hypertension patients.
