Abstract

Abstract - Bullying is a social problem that hurts the victim's mental health, one of which is increased anxiety. Emotional support from family, friends, and the social environment is important in helping victims overcome these psychological impacts. This study aims to analyze the relationship between peer emotional support and the anxiety of victims of bullying in class VII students at SMPN 1 Mojoanyar Mojokerto. This study was quantitative research with a correlational analytic design using a cross-sectional approach. The instruments used were the Peer Emotional Support Scale and the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS/SRAS). The population consisted of 108 students who were victims of bullying, and a sample of 85 students was obtained using the Proportionate Random Sampling technique. The study was conducted in October 2024. Spearman’s test indicated ρ < α (0.05) = 0.000, meaning there was a relationship between peer emotional support and anxiety. The correlation coefficient value (r) = -0.647 indicated a strong and negative relationship, meaning that the higher the peer emotional support, the lower the anxiety level, or vice versa. The results showed that most respondents had moderate peer emotional support (61 respondents or 71.8%), and 55 respondents (64.7%) experienced mild anxiety. Therefore, students are encouraged to provide emotional support to their peers, such as being good listeners, giving full attention without interrupting, and helping them feel cared for and understood, which can reduce anxiety. Keywords: Peer emotional support, Anxiety
