Abstract

Abstract - Lack of family support for patient needs while at home is a cause of relapse. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors related to family support in caring for schizophrenia patients at the Krembung Sidoarjo Community Health Center. The method in this study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional study design. The population in this study were patients and their families with schizophrenia. The sample in this study amounted to 113 respondents with consecutive sampling technique. The independent variables in this study were knowledge, perception, and access to health services. The dependent variable in this study was family support. The instrument in this study used a questionnaire. Statistical tests used the Spearman Rank test. The results in this study showed that most family support was sufficient (52 respondents) , knowledge of respondents was mostly good (80 respondents) , perception was mostly good (62 respondents) , and access to health services was mostly high (87 respondents) . The Spearman Rank test yielded a P value of 0.000, indicating a relationship between knowledge, perception, and access to healthcare services and family support in caring for schizophrenia patients at the Krembung Sidaorjo Community Health Center. Families are expected to be more active in seeking information about the health of schizophrenia patients and maintaining a positive perception of patient care. Optimal family support is expected to reduce the patient's relapse rate. Keywords: Family support, knowledge, perception, access to health services, schizophrenia
