Abstract

Abstract - Most hypertension does not show symptoms in the early stages, so it is often undetected and not managed properly, which can cause serious complications. One factor that can minimize the emergence of complications is self- care. Self-care can be implemented in several ways, one of which is patient education. This study aimed to analyze the effect of education through WhatsApp media on the self-care behaviour of hypertension patients in the Outpatient Clinic of Reksa Waluya Hospital. This study used a quasi-experimental research design with a pretest posttest with a control group design approach. The number of samples used was 23 respondents in each group taken using the purposive sampling method. The instrument used in this study was the Hypertension Self-Care Profile (HBP-SCP). Data analysis used independent t-tests and dependent t-tests. The average score of self-care behaviour before being given education through WhatsApp media in the intervention group was 49.04 (SB = 11.207), and in the control group was 43.78 (SB = 12.038). The independent t-test results obtained a p-value of 0.132, meaning there is no difference in self-care behaviour before being given education via Whatsapp media. The average score of self-care behaviour after being given education via Whatsapp media in the intervention group was 66.17 (SB = 8.558), and in the control group was 45.78 (SB = 11.981). The independent t-test results obtained a p-value of 0.000, which means there is a difference in self-care behaviour after being given education via Whatsapp media. The average score of self-care behaviour between the intervention group and the control group (p = 0.000) after being given education via Whatsapp media is significantly different. Health education delivered via WhatsApp has proven effective in improving self-care behaviour in hypertensive patients. This method provides easy access to information virtually. Education via WhatsApp allows patients to receive educational materials periodically and interactively to learn and remember important information about hypertension management anytime and anywhere.
