Abstract

Abstract - Anemia is one of the most common health problems among female students, which can seriously affect their growth, development, and quality of life. Lack of knowledge about anemia is one of the main contributing factors. To address this issue, engaging and easy-to understand educational media are required. This study aimed to determine the difference in effectiveness between Smart Box and Comic Strip media in improving knowledge about anemia among students of SMPN 1 Kota Mojokerto. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, using a pretest-posttest design with two groups. The sample consisted of 96 female students, randomly divided into two groups, with each group receiving an intervention using either Smart Box or Comic Strip media. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge in both groups after the intervention. The Smart Box group achieved a mean posttest score of 90.31 (SD = 9.13), while the Comic Strip group achieved a mean posttest score of 94.17 (SD = 5.49), with a p-value of 0.059, indicating no statistically significant difference between the two groups. This study indicates that prior to the intervention, students’ knowledge in both groups was at a moderate level. After the intervention, both Smart Box and Comic Strip media successfully improved students’ knowledge to a good level. Significant improvements were observed within each group before and after the intervention; however, no significant difference was found between the two media in terms of effectiveness. Both Smart Box and Comic Strip are effective in enhancing students’ knowledge about anemia. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a reference in selecting innovative and engaging health education media for students. Keywords: Anemia, Knowledge, Smart Box, Comic Strip
