Abstract
Abstract Anemia remained a major health problem in Indonesia, especially among adolescent girls who were vulnerable to iron loss due to menstruation. Non compliance and low interest in consuming iron tablets (TTD) or iron tablets were the main causes of the high rate of nutritional anemia. One strategy to increase student compliance and awareness was through mentoring. This study aimed to determine the effect of mentoring on knowledge, perception, motivation, and compliance with iron tablet consumption among female students at Bangsal 1 Junior High School. This study was a quantitative pre-experimental study using a One Group Pre-Post Test Design. The population in this study were all 128 female students aged 12–14 years at Bangsal 1 Junior High School, with 104 students meeting the inclusion criteria. The sampling technique used proportionate random sampling. The intervention was carried out for 3 weeks, including health education and 3 sessions of mentoring on iron tablet consumption. Data collection used a questionnaire instrument and was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of the study before and after the mentoring intervention showed a significant increase in all variables. After the intervention, there was a significant increase in all variables. High knowledge increased from 69.2% to 99.04%. Good perception increased from 86.5% to 100%. Strong motivation jumped from 47.1% to 90.4%. High compliance experienced the most drastic increase from 3.8% to 64.4%.The Wilcoxon test results showed a significance value ($p$-value) of 0.00 ($p < 0.05$) for all variables. This proved that there was a significant effect of providing mentoring interventions on increasing knowledge, improving perceptions, strengthening motivation, and increasing compliance of female students in consuming Fe tablets. Mentoring the consumption of Fe tablets accompanied by health education proved very effective in changing the behavior and compliance of young women. It is recommended for female students to maintain regular consumption of Fe tablets to support the success of the government's anemia prevention program.
