Abstract
ABSTRACT The success of health development plays a significant role in achieving quality human resources (HR). One crucial factor in improving human quality is the proper provision of breast milk (ASI) as early as possible after birth, known as early breastfeeding initiation. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between birth weight and delivery type and the implementation of early breastfeeding initiation at Sakinah Islamic Hospital (RSI) in Mojokerto. This study was a correlational analysis using a cross-sectional design. The population was mothers in labor. The sampling technique used probability sampling with acidental sampling. The sample size was 124 people at Sakinah Islamic Hospital (RSI) in Mojokerto. The study was conducted in January 2026. The research instrument was a questionnaire, and the statistical test used was Chi-square. The results of the study, which included 124 respondents, showed that almost all (104) delivered with a birth weight of 2,500 grams or more (83.9%). Most (84) delivered by cesarean section (67.7%). Almost all (104) successfully initiated early breastfeeding (IMD). The results of the Fisher's Exact Test showed a P-value of 0.01 < 0.05, indicating a relationship between birth weight and successful early breastfeeding initiation. The Chi-square test showed a P-value of 814 > 0.05, indicating no relationship between the type of delivery and successful early breastfeeding initiation. There was a relationship between birth weight and successful early breastfeeding initiation, but no relationship between the type of delivery and successful early breastfeeding initiation. Therefore, it is hoped that healthcare workers, especially in hospitals, will continue to motivate mothers to prepare for early breastfeeding initiation from the time of their prenatal checkup. Keywords: Birth weight, type of delivery, early breastfeeding initiation
