Abstract

Abstract – The puberty phase represents a transitional period from childhood to adulthood encompassing biological, psychological, and social transformations. Generally, this stage begins between the ages of 11 and 13 and concludes between 18 and 22 years of age. Menstrual irregularities may be triggered by hormonal imbalances, extremes nutritional status (BMI), stress, age, metabolic disorders, contraceptive use, ovarian tumors, and hypothalamic-pituitary axis dysfunction. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), BMI levels outside the normal range correlate with irregular menstrual cycles. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nutritional status, stress, and menstrual cycles among adolescents at STIKES Majapahit Mojokerto. The research employed a descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling was conducted via total population sampling involving 21 respondents. Results indicated that 11 individuals (52.4%) had a normal nutritional status, 16 (76.2%) experienced mild stress, and 17 (81%) exhibited abnormal menstrual cycles. Bivariate analysis revealed that among the 10 underweight adolescents (47.6%), all had abnormal cycles, while among the 11 with normal nutritional status, 33.3% experienced abnormal cycles. The chi-square test yielded a p-value of 0.034 (p < 0.05), confirming a significant relationship between nutritional status and menstrual cycles. Regarding stress, the p-value was 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between stress and menstrual cycles at STIKES Majapahit Mojokerto in 2023. Adolescents are encouraged to maintain a balanced nutritional intake and practice effective stress management. Future researchers are advised to conduct more comprehensive analyses and investigate additional factors significantly impacting menstrual regularity in adolescent girls. Keywords: stress, nutritional status, menstruation.
