Abstract
ABSTRACT The practice of infant acupressure massage is part of complementary midwifery services that contributes to optimizing infant growth and development. Although its benefits are well recognized, the implementation of this practice among midwives still varies and is influenced by individual and professional characteristics. This study aims to analyze the determinants of infant acupressure massage practices among midwives holding a Midwife Practice License (SIPB) in the Panongan Branch, Tangerang Regency. This study employed a quantitative design with an analytic cross-sectional survey approach. The population consisted of 52 midwives, with a sample of 30 respondents selected using purposive sampling techniques. The independent variables included age, last educational level, length of work experience, and participation in continuing education and training, while the dependent variable was the practice of infant acupressure massage. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square test to determine the relationships between variables. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between age (p>0.05) and last educational level (p>0.05) with the practice of infant acupressure massage. In contrast, length of work experience and continuing training had a significant relationship (p<0.05) with the practice. Continuing training was identified as the most dominant factor influencing the implementation of infant acupressure massage practices among midwives. Further analysis indicated that longer work experience enhances clinical skills and self-confidence, enabling midwives to integrate complementary services into daily practice more effectively. In addition, continuing training acts as a reinforcing factor that directly improves midwives’ knowledge, attitudes, and skills regarding infant acupressure massage techniques. The non-significant findings for age and educational level suggest that these factors do not directly influence practice without the support of practical experience and specific training. The discussion of this study emphasizes that competency improvement through continuing training is a key factor in promoting the implementation of complementary midwifery practices. These findings are consistent with professional competency development theory, which states that continuous learning and practical experience are primary determinants of behavioral change among healthcare providers. Therefore, systematic efforts are needed to provide ongoing training and professional development for midwives to enhance service quality, particularly in the practice of infant acupressure massage.
