Abstract

Abstract Postpartum blues is a mild emotional disorder often experienced by mothers from the early stages to the postpartum period. This study aims to determine the psychosocial factors associated with postpartum blues in postpartum mothers at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic at Anwar Medika General Hospital. This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample size was 52 postpartum mothers using a simple random sampling technique. Data collection used a husband support questionnaire and the EPDS questionnaire. The results showed that 50% of postpartum mothers experienced postpartum blues. A chi-square statistical test with a p-value <0.05 revealed a significant association between age (p = 0.001), parity (p = 0.011), education (p = 0.026), occupation (p = 0.011), and husband support (p <0.05) with postpartum blues. Income did not show a significant association (p = 0.126) with the incidence of postpartum blues. Mothers aged <20 and >35 years were less physically and mentally prepared, and primiparas lacked experience in dealing with childbirth and infant care. Low levels of education can impact a mother's ability to understand health-related information, while working mothers are more likely to experience dual role burdens that increase stress. Husband support, the quality and form of support provided, can also impact a mother's psychological well-being. This study is expected to provide benefits for early detection of postpartum blues through premarital mental health screening, reproductive health education, psychosocial factor assessment, premarital counseling, and husband involvement in pregnancy preparation.
