Abstract

ABSTRACT The use of long-term contraceptive methods such as the Intra Uterine Device (IUD) was still relatively low due to limited information and negative perceptions within the community. Family Planning (FP) counseling was one of the efforts to increase knowledge and interest among pregnant women in choosing appropriate contraceptive methods.This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of FP counseling on the interest of pregnant women in using IUD contraception at the Executive Polyclinic of Mawaddah Medika Hospital Mojokerto. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest posttest approach. The population in this study consisted of all pregnant women who attended antenatal care (ANC) visits at the Executive Polyclinic of Mawaddah Medika Hospital Mojokerto, totaling 69 people, with a sample of 59 respondents selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using a paired sample t-test.The results showed that before counseling, most respondents had a moderate level of interest, with 32 people (54.2%), low interest 21 people (35.6%), and high interest 6 people (10.2%). After counseling, there was an increase in interest, with high interest reaching 34 people (57.6%), moderate interest 23 people (39.0%), and low interest 2 people (3.4%).The statistical test results showed a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating that FP counseling was effective in increasing the interest of pregnant women in using IUD contraception.It was concluded that counseling was effective in increasing pregnant women’s interest in the use of IUD contraception at the Executive Polyclinic of Mawaddah Medika Hospital, and the findings were expected to be used as a basis for developing reproductive health knowledge, encouraging further research, increasing pregnant women’s participation in counseling, improving the quality of education provided by healthcare workers, and serving as a reference for educational institutions in developing evidence-based learning.
