Abstract

Abstract Good sleep quality is one of the most essential basic needs for humans, especially for school-age children. However, several problems in the current era have shown a decline in sleep quality experienced by children, making them more vulnerable to sleep disorders. One of the necessary interventions to prevent and address this problem is the use of Sleep Hygiene therapy. This study aims to determine the effect of Sleep Hygiene on sleep quality in school-age children at SDN 173 Gresik. This study used a pre-experimental design, specifically the one-group pre post test design. The study was conducted at SDN 173 Gresik, with 51 students from grades IV and V as respondents. The sampling technique used was proportionate random sampling. Data collection took place in November with a 4-week intervention. The data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index instrument and analyzed using the T-test. The sleep quality of the respondents showed that the pre-intervention mean sleep quality was 10.86 (poor category), while after the 4-week intervention, all respondents experienced an improvement in sleep quality with a post-intervention mean of 4.88 (good category). The paired samples correlation test showed that there was a significant effect of Sleep Hygiene on sleep quality in school-age children at SDN 173 Gresik. In conclusion, providing sleep hygiene interventions can improve the sleep quality of school-age children, so it is recommended for school-age children who have poor sleep quality to apply this therapy in order to improve and enhance their sleep quality. Keywords: Sleep Hygiene, Sleep Quality, School-age Children.
