Abstract

Abstract. Open Defecation can be a cause of environment-based diseases due to unsanitary fecal discharge. Defecation can occur one of them because of the lack of knowledge and attitudes of the community. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship of knowledge and attitudes with defecation behavior. This thesis research is a descriptive quantitative research that used a cross sectional approach. The research will be conducted in Kedawung Kulon Village, Grati District, in July 2023. The sample of this study was 63 people taken through simple random sampling. Data collection was carried out using questionnaire sheets, interviews, and observations. The results were then tested using Chi-Square and spearman correlation with a meaning level of 0.05. The results showed that knowledge had a moderate and significant relationship with defecation behavior (r = -0.424; p-value=0.001). Meanwhile, no significant relationship was found between defecation attitudes and behavior (p-value = 0.252). The conclusion of this study is that low knowledge can be a factor causing defecation behavior in the community. Therefore, there needs to be efforts such as healthy latrine education, creative STBM triggering, and the active role of the community itself. Keywords: BABS, latrine, knowledge, attitude
