Abstract

ABSTRACT Abdominal colic is a condition characterized by the appearance of abdominal pain. In pain management, one of the independent actions that a nurse can take is to provide non-pharmacological management to patients with abdominal colic by providing complementary therapy. Complementary therapy applied in this study is warm compress therapy and slow stroke back massage. This study aims to determine differences in the effectiveness of warm compress therapy and slow stroke back massage in patients with abdominal colic. The design of this study used quasi experimental design method with non equivalent control group design approach. The population used was abdominal colic patients in Mawar Pink Room RSUD Sidoarjo in January 2023. Samples were taken using quota sampling of 88 people. The variables in this study were the pain scale of abdominal colic patients in Group 1 who were given warm compress therapy and Group 2 who were given slow stroke back massage. The Data were analyzed using T-test of two free samples. The implication of this study is that warm compress therapy and slow stroke back massage have the same contribution in reduced the pain scale of abdominal colic patients. So it is necessary to socialize the provision of warm compress therapy and slow stroke back massage as an alternative and additional non-pharmacological therapy in reduced pain in patients. Keywords: abdominal colic, warm compress therapy, slow stroke back massage, decreased pain scale.
