Abstract
ABSTRACT - Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. However, there are risk factors that can cause tuberculosis in children. This study aims to determine the risk factors associated with the incidence of tuberculosis in children at Sidoarjo Hospital. Case control research design. With a retrospective approach. This research was conducted at Sidoarjo Hospital. The samples in this study were children with a cough lasting ≥ 2 weeks, children with malnutrition with symptoms and characteristics resembling pulmonary TB. There were 22 respondents who were taken by purposive sampling technique. Data collection using check lists and questionnaires. Data analysis used the shi square test and person statistics. Results: From studies that carried out BCG immunization of 77.3%, history of contact with TB patients was 68.2%. History of smoking behavior was 68.2%. Statistical test with chi-square obtained p value .000 < α (0.05). It means that Ha is rejected and Ho is accepted and it can be concluded that risk factors such as BCG immunization, contact history and smoking behavior are related to the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis in children. Conclusion: The BCG immunization status factor is related to and is a risk factor for TB in children at Sidoarjo Hospital. The history of contact with TB is related to and is a risk factor for TB in children at Sidoarjo Hospital. Family smoking behavior factors are related and are risk factors for tuberculosis in children at Sidoarjo Hospital. The factors of immunization status and history of contact with TB are the factors most related to the incidence of tuberculosis in children at Sidoarjo Hospital.
