Abstract

Abstract - High preoperative anxiety can hinder patient outcomes and recovery. This study aims to evaluate the impact of health education on preoperative anxiety levels in patients at RSUD Sumberglagah. This research employed a quasi experimental design with a pretest-posttest structure, involving 48 respondents selected based on inclusion criteria. Data was collected using the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) questionnaire. Results indicate a significant reduction in patient anxiety levels post-education (Z = -5.892, p < 0.001). Before education, the majority of patients experienced moderate to severe anxiety, while post-education, almost all patients demonstrated low anxiety levels. These findings suggest that health education effectively reduces preoperative anxiety by enhancing patients' understanding of the upcoming procedure. The implications of this research recommend optimizing health education programs as an essential part of preoperative care to improve patient comfort and postoperative outcomes.
