Abstract

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Uric acid is mostly excreted through the kidneys and a small part is excreted through the digestive tract, due to excess uric acid, there will be accumulation in the joints and tissues, gout is a degenerative disease that attacks the joints, and is most often found in society, especially experienced by the elderly (Elderly). OBJECTIVE: This study uses a descriptive correlation design type with a cross-sectional approach, the population in this study was 51 respondents. The sample used was 33 respondents taken using random sampling techniques. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire sheet. RESEARCH RESULTS: most respondents have normal uric acid levels as many as 3 respondents (9.1), high uric acid levels as many as 21 respondents (63.6), compliance with a low purine diet as many as 10 respondents (30.3) while non-compliance with a low purine diet as many as 23 respondents (69.7) based on the results of a random sampling statistical test with a Coefiorent Contrigency 0,344 so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between low purine diet behavior and uric acid levels in the elderly in Plumpung Hamlet, Sidoarjo Regency. CONCLUSION: The relationship between low purine diet behavior and uric acid levels in the elderly in Plumpung Hamlet, Sidoarjo Regency, most respondents with low purine diet compliance in gout sufferers are included in the non-compliant category, according to researchers, the relationship between low purine diet behavior is caused by most gout arthritis sufferers having less family support.
