Abstract

ABSTRACT Preoperative anxiety is a condition where before surgery is performed, an individual will experience excessive fear and worry about undergoing surgery because of the feeling that he or she is in danger. Preoperative anxiety can cause surgery to fail or be delayed. One way to reduce preoperative patient anxiety is surgical preparation. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of surgical preparation on preoperative patient anxiety. The type of research is pre-experimental and uses a one-group pre-test post test design. Preoperative anxiety as the dependent variable and surgical preparation as the independent variable. The sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique of 30 respondents. Data were collected using the INPPOAS questionnaire instrument with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed that most respondents experienced moderate anxiety before the surgical preparation intervention and after the surgical preparation intervention, most respondents were not anxious. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test obtained data ρ <0.001 α <0.05 so that ρ < α means H1 is accepted, meaning there is an influence between surgical preparation actions on reducing preoperative patient anxiety scale at Sumberglagah Hospital. It is expected to continue to provide support, motivation, enthusiasm, attention, affection to patients so that positive enthusiasm and thoughts are encouraged for preoperative patients so that they can help reduce anxiety levels in preoperative patients.
