Abstract
ABSTRACT Pneumonia is one of the biggest causes of death throughout the world, Indonesia is in 8th place with 22,000 deaths. In an effort to increase the effectiveness of treatment, chest physiotherapy is considered to play an important role. At the Malang Lavalette Hospital, pediatric patients diagnosed with pneumonia were given chest physiotherapy, but only in a few patients. The aim of this study was to determine the difference in length of stay for pneumonia patients based on the provision of chest physiotherapy in the Children's Room at Lavalette Hospital, Malang. The research design used a prospective cohort using the Consecutive Sampling technique. The samples in this study were pediatric patients diagnosed with pneumonia with a total of 30 respondents, with details of 15 respondents being given chest physiotherapy, and 15 respondents not being given chest physiotherapy. The research was conducted in February-March 2024. The research results showed that there was a significant difference in the length of stay for patients who had received physiotherapy and those who had not received physiotherapy. The p value from the analysis test using Mann Whitney was 0.009 (<0.05). Providing physiotherapy to patients diagnosed with pneumonia is very useful. For sufferers of lung disease, both acute and chronic, it is very effective in removing secretions and improving ventilation in patients with impaired lung function. The improvement in the condition of pneumonia patients who receive physiotherapy can be caused by improvements in several things, one of which is the hemodynamic status which becomes better with the relaxation status received by the patient. The application of physiotherapy at Lavalette Hospital will help accelerate the improvement of patient conditions and the policy of providing physiotherapy can be implemented in the clinical pathway of patients with pneumonia, which will have an impact on reducing patient LOS.
