Abstract

Abstract – Adolescence is characterized by psychological instability, a search for identity, inner conflict, and great curiosity. One of the factors that encourages teenagers to accept their physical condition is the idea of different body shapes that do not conform to the standards of proportional bodies in the surrounding environment. Most teenagers express dissatisfaction with their body shape, especially in terms of weight. One of the causes of dissatisfaction with body shape is low self-confidence in teenagers. The general aim of this research is to determine the relationship between body image and the level of self-confidence of teenagers in Plumbon Village, Ngawen District, Blora Regency. This research uses a correlational research design. This research used total sampling with a sample size of 150 teenagers. This research was conducted in July 2024. The instrument used was a questionnaire adopted from previous researchers with a Cronbach alpha of 0.949 for the body image questionnaire and a Cronbach alpha of 0.956 for the self confidence questionnaire. This research uses the chi-square analysis test. The research results showed that the majority of teenagers had a positive body image, 106 respondents (70.7%) and the majority of teenagers had high self-confidence, 117 respondents (78%). Based on the results of the Chi Square test, a sig value of 0.000 < 0.05 was obtained and the Contingency Coefficient was 0.000, which means that there is a relationship between body image and the level of self confidence of teenagers in Plumbon Village, Ngawen District, Blora Regency. Adolescents who have a positive body image will have high self-confidence. If adolescents have a negative body image, their self-confidence will be lower. Therefore, it is hoped that teenagers in Plumbon Village, Ngawen District, Blora Regency can assess their body image positively in order to increase their self confidence and always try to accept their own strengths and weaknesses and always look positively at themselves.
