Abstract

Abstract Implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SPO) for fall risk prevention is one of the instruments that must be enforced in the hospital. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitude with nurse compliance in implementing SPO for fall risk prevention in the inpatient room of Bhayangkara H.S. Samsoeri Mertojoso Surabaya Hospital. Study design used a crossectional with a sample of 52 nurses with 5-6 people per room selected by simple random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed that most nurses in the inpatient room of Bhayangkara H.S. Samsoeri Mertojoso Surabaya Hospital had good knowledge in implementing SPO for fall risk prevention, namely 37 people (71.2%), almost all nurses had a positive attitude in implementing SPO for fall risk prevention, namely 46 people (86.5%), and most nurses were obedient in implementing SPO for fall risk prevention, namely 37 people (71.2%). The results of the Spearman correlation test showed there was a relationship between knowledge and nurse compliance in implementing SPO for fall risk prevention (ρs = 0.285, P value = 0.040), and there was a relationship between attitude and nurse compliance in implementing SPO for fall risk prevention (ρs = 0.655, P value = 0.000). Knowledge or cognitive is a very important domain for the formation of one's actions. Knowledge can provide broad insight into each individual, and can apply it in certain situations and form a positive attitude which in turn can increase compliance with the implementation of a rule. Therefore, the hospital should routinely carry out training to increase the knowledge of new nurses in preventing the risk of falls and socialize the applicable SOP so that an obedient attitude emerges in implementing the SOP for preventing the risk of falls.
