Abstract

ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus is usually called the silent killer because this disease can affect all organs of the body and cause various kinds of complaints. The distribution of diabetes cases in the Puskesmas Lawang in 2020 was 617, in 2021 there were 1,340, while in 2021 there were 1,724 DM sufferers, meaning there was an increase in the number of sufferers compared to the previous year. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between obesity and HbA1c value examination at the Puskesmas Lawang. This research uses a cross sectional study method, with a Systematic Random Sampling technique with a sample size of 305 respondents. Data collection was carried out by recapitulating patient visit data from Medical Record laboratories in December 2022 - March 2023. The data collected was processed using statistical tests to be analyzed using the chi square test with (α) 0.05. The research results showed that almost all respondents in the Obesity BMI category were 190 (83.7%), while in the normal category a small number of respondents were 37 respondents (16.3%). The results of the chi square test show that obesity is related to the incidence of DM in the HbA1c examination results, p value 0.000 < α 0.05, obesity is related to the results of the fasting sugar examination, p value 0.000 < α 0.05. The prevalence ratio was 7.579 (95% CI = 4.686-12.259). BMI influences the incidence of diabetes mellitus so it is hoped that the Community Health Center can carry out prevention and education activities with INTEGRATED PRONALIST activities and several cadres in the Puskesmas Lawang working area.
