Abstract
ABSTRACT Low birth weight babies have a greater risk for stunting and other diseases as adults. The prevalence of LBW in the world is about 15.5% of babies born alive every year and about 96.5% of them occur in developing countries. This study aims to determine the relationship between anemia in pregnant women and the incidence of LBW at RSI Sakinah, Mojokerto Regency in 2024. The design of this study was observational case control. The total population was 1963 maternity mothers, and the sample size was 25 respondents for the case group and 25 respondents for the control group taken by purposive sampling technique. The data obtained were then analyzed univariate and bivariate, statistical analysis using the chi square test with α < value of 0.05. Most of the respondents experienced anemia, which was 64% and half of the respondents experienced LBW, which was as much as 50%. The results of the chi square test obtained a p-value of 0.003 < 0.05 and an OR value of 6.682. These results show that there is a relationship between gestational anemia and LBW. Pregnant women with anemia will have a 6.682 times greater risk of giving birth to a baby with LBW compared to pregnant women without anemia. A decrease in hemoglobin levels during pregnancy will have an impact on changes in angiogenesis in the placenta so that it will lead to a reduced flow of oxygen and nutrients to the fetus. Disturbed palsental blood flow will cause fetal growth disorders in the uterus which results in the occurrence of LBW. Health workers, especially midwives, are expected to be able to analyze the status of anemia, so that it can be prevented and also arrange alternative nutrition menus that are high in protein at affordable prices or other preventive efforts so that BBLR does not occur. Key words: Anemia during pregnancy, LBW
