Abstract
ABSTRACT Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) was a collection of symptoms or complaints, whether physical, emotional or behavioral, that occur before and during menstruation. There are many theories that mention the cause of PMS, but one of the suspected causes of PMS is hormonal factors. The imbalance of estrogen and progesterone hormones that occurs allows someone to experience Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS). The method chosen was correlational with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling and obtained a sample of 41 respondents and used a questionnaire instrument for both the independent variable premenstrual syndrome and the dependent variable excessive daytime sleepiness, then the data was analyzed using the Spearman rho ranks test with a significance level of 0.05. The research data shows the results (63.4%) of employees experience PMS in moderate criteria and (68.3%) employees experience EDS The results of the analysis test obtained a significant p-value (0.000) (α <0.05), there is a relationship between the Level of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and the Incidence of Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS). There are many factors that influence the condition of PMS and EDS, where in this study psychological factors or stress both from within and environmental stressors are factors that play a role in influencing both. Unbalanced hormones affect the production of serotonin which plays a role in changes in mood, appetite and sleep needs, increased hormones. From this, it is hoped that respondents can carry out stress management so that PMS and EDS conditions do not affect the productivity of respondents as employees in hospitals. Keywords: premenstrual syndrome, excessive daytime sleepiness, hospital employees
