Abstract
ABSTRACT Labor pain occurs during the latent phase of the first stage and intensifies during the active phase. Data shows, 15% of mothers in Indonesia experience complications in childbirth, 21% say labor is painful, 63% of people do not get information about preparations to reduce pain during childbirth. This study aims to determine the effect of Benson relaxation on the intensity of pain in the first stage of labor in laboring women at RSUD R.A Baseoeni Mojokerto Regency. The research design used quasi experiment. The sample of this study were mothers inpartu kala I (active phase) according to the inclusion criteria taken with a large sample size formula of 15 respondents. The treatment group measured the pain scale then given benson relaxation during contractions for 10 minutes. Data were analyzed by Paired Samples t - Test statistical test. The pain scale of stage 1 in laboring mothers before being given Benson relaxation is almost half at numbers 5 and 6, namely 5 respondents (33,3%). While after being given Benson relaxation almost half at number 4, namely 6 respondents (40%). Bivariate analysis with Paired Samples t - Test using SPSS, obtained the result of ρvalue 0.001 < α = 0.05 with 95% CI 1.881 - 2.785, which means that there is an effect of giving Benson relaxation on the intensity of pain in time 1 in laboring women. Benson therapy is a breathing relaxation technique involving beliefs that result in a decrease in oxygen consumption by the body and O2 in the brain is fulfilled in a balanced condition. The feeling of relaxation will be forwarded to the hypothalamus CRF and POMC to produce β endorphine as a neurotransmitte. The results of this study can be a reference for research sites in conducting non-pharmacological therapy to reduce pain, especially obstetric care in laboring mothers. Key words: Pain, childbirth, relaxation
