Abstract

Abstract - Schizophrenia is a significant mental health issue in society. Schizophrenia can impair the overall productivity of those affected and increases the risk of criminal behavior or suicide. This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with the incidence of schizophrenia at the Puri Community Health Center (UPTD Puskesmas 1 Puri) in 2023–2024. This was an analytical study using the Case-Control method. The study population consisted of 295 individuals diagnosed with mental disorders at the UPTD Puskesmas Puri during the 2023-2024 period. The sample size was 118, devided into 59 cases and 59 controls. Data were collected using a checklist and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results of this study indicated that the majority of respondents were of non-risk age (≤44 years) (57.6%), male (68.6%), unmarried (77.1%), and had low educational attainment (67.8%). Nearly all respondents were unemployed (90.7%) and had no family history of schizophrenia (82.2%). The analysis results indicated that the risk factors for schizophrenia were age (p-value=0.009; OR=2.70; 95% CI=0.174 0.788), gender (p-value=0.010; OR=2.88; 95% CI=1.271-6.523), marital status (P value=0.049; OR=2.44; 95% CI=0.991-6.002), occupation (P value=0.752; OR 1.22; 95% CI = 0.235–2.843), education (p-value = 0.018; OR = 2.60; 95% CI =0.858–0.910), family history (p-value = 0.030; OR = 3.01; 95% CI = 1.078–8.415). Age, gender, marital status, education, and family history are risk factors for schizophrenia, so at-risk individuals can take preventive measures. It is hoped that community health centers can provide education to the public about various risk factors for schizophrenia. Keywords: Schizophrenia, Mental Disorders, Risk Factors
