Abstract

Abstract Many public misconceptions about hypertension include the belief that it doesn't require serious treatment, that dieting isn't necessary, and that normal blood pressure levels increase with age. However, one of the key management strategies for hypertension sufferers is a well-planned diet. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of supportive education on hypertension diet adherence among the elderly in Katemas Village, Kudu District, Jombang Regency. This study used a pra-experimental design with a pretest/posttest group design. The study population consisted of 98 elderly people with hypertension in Katemas Village, Kudu District, Jombang Regency. A cluster random sampling technique was used to select 79 respondents. Data were collected using a diet adherence questionnaire, and the results were tested using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed an increase in dietary adherence before and after supportive education, with the number of compliant respondents increasing from 25 (31.6%) to 60 (75.9%). Based on the Wilcoxon test results, the value of Ρ = 0.001 <α = 0.005 was obtained, so H1 was accepted. This means that supportive education was effectively provided to dietary compliance in elderly people with hypertension in Katemas Village, Kudu District, Jombang Regency. Education provided about hypertension diet can increase respondents' knowledge about foods that can or cannot be consumed. Support provided to the elderly makes them motivated to comply with dietary arrangements properly. Keywords : Education, Adherence, Hypertention, Elderly
