Abstract

ABSTRACT Decreased cognitive decline is the biggest cause of inability to perform normal daily activities and is also the dominant reason that causes dependence on others for self-care. This study aims to determine the relationship between cognitive function and the level of independence of the elderly in Mojogeneng Village, Jatirejo District, Mojokerto Regency. This type of research usescorrelational analytics with designcrossestional.A sample of 150 elderly people in Mojogeneng Village, Jatirejo District who met the inclusion criteria and the sampling technique used wassimple random sampling. In this study, 2 instruments were used, namely the MMSE questionnaire and the Katz Index questionnaire and the data test used was the MMSE test.Spearman`s rho. The results of this research obtained resultsCognitive Function in the Elderly in Mojogeneng Village, Jatirejo District, almost half of them experience mild cognitive impairment, as many as 51 respondents (34.0%) and Independence of the Elderly in Mojogeneng Village, Jatirejo District, almost half are independent, as many as 65 respondents (43.3%). Test Resultsspearman`s rho show Asymp. Say 0.000 ≤ α (0.05) which means there is a relationship between cognitive function and the level of independence of the elderly in Mojogeneng Village, Jatirejo District, Mojokerto Regency. The aging process causes cognitive impairment, which is clearly seen in memory and intelligence, which includes the way the elderly think, memory in the elderly which results in difficulties in carrying out daily work, planning, and carrying out daily activities for their life needs.
