Abstract
Abstract - Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers among women and is often associated with decreased quality of life due to the physical, psychological, and social impacts of chemotherapy. Effective interventions, such as health education and peer group support, are needed to improve patients’ quality of life. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest posttest control group. A total of 52 breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at RSUD dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo, Mojokerto City, were recruited and divided into two groups: intervention (peer group support) and control (leaflet). Quality of life was measured using the WHOQOL questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann-Whitney Test. In the control group, most patients remained in the moderate quality of life category (76.9%). Before intervention, the majority of the intervention group also had moderate quality of life (84.6%). After peer group support, 53.8% of patients improved to the good category, with no patients remaining in the poor category. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant effect of peer group support on quality of life (p = 0.0000). The Mann-Whitney test revealed a significant difference between the intervention and control groups (p = 0.0001).Peer group support was found to be more effective than leaflet education in improving patients’ quality of life, as it provides emotional, informational, and social support.the findings highlight the importance of integrating peer group support into oncology nursing care. Nurses and healthcare providers should facilitate peer group programs to provide continuous psychosocial support and optimize the quality of life of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
