Abstract

Abstrack - Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with an increasing prevalence in Indonesia. DM complications may be influenced by uncontrolled blood glucose and blood pressure. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between blood glucose control and blood pressure with complications in DM patients. This study used an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population included all DM patients hospitalized in the inpatient ward at Sidoarjo Barat Regional Hospital. A total of 30 respondents were selected using consecutive sampling. Data were obtained from medical records, HbA1c test results, and blood pressure measurements. Analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test. Most patients (73.3%) had uncontrolled blood glucose (HbA1c ≥ 6.5%), and 60% had uncontrolled blood pressure. The most common complications were diabetic nephropathy (26.7%) and diabetic foot ulcers (23.3%). There was a significant relationship between blood glucose control and complications (p = 0.021; r = 0.410) as well as between blood pressure and complications (p = 0.032; r = 0.382). Uncontrolled blood glucose and blood pressure are associated with an increased risk of complications in DM patients. Control efforts through education, HbA1c monitoring, and hypertension management need to be strengthened. Keywords: Electronic Medical Records, Workload, Health Workers
