Abstract

Total Knee Replacement (TKR) is a major orthopedic surgical procedure aimed at improving knee function in patients with osteoarthritis or severe joint damage. One of the main post-TKR problems is pain, which can hinder mobility and the rehabilitation process. Range of Motion (ROM), as an indicator of joint mobilization, is thought to play a crucial role in reducing pain levels. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between ROM and pain levels in post-TKR surgery patients at the Orthopedic Clinic at Al-Irsyad Hospital, Surabaya. The study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The population was all 58 post-TKR patients from January to June 2025, with a sample of 30 respondents selected using the quota sampling. The instruments used included a ROM observation sheet and a Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that nearly half of the respondents (13 people) had normal ROM, and nearly half (11 people) experienced mild pain. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between ROM and pain levels, with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). This means that the better the ROM achieved by the patient, the lower the pain level. It is hoped that health workers, especially nurses, can optimize ROM exercises in rehabilitation programs, as well as provide ongoing education to patients and families to support recovery and reduce pain. Keywords: Range of Motion (ROM), Pain, Total Knee Replacement (TKR)
