Abstract

Abstract - Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires high adherence to medication to prevent complications. However, adherence rates among hypertensive patients remain low. This study aimed to determine the effect of implementing a self-management pocketbook on medication adherence among hypertensive patients at the Cardiology Clinic at Al-Irsyad Hospital, Surabaya.The study used a pre-experimental design with the one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample size in this research is 42 person was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments consisted of a medication adherence questionnaire and an intervention medium, the self-management pocketbook. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test.The results showed an increase in medication adherence after being provided with the self-management pocketbook. Statistical analysis showed a p-value <0.05, indicating a significant effect between the implementation of the self-management pocketbook and medication adherence in hypertensive patients.In conclusion, the self-management pocketbook is effective in improving medication adherence in hypertensive patients. This educational medium can be used as an alternative nursing strategy to support self-management in hypertensive patients.
