Abstract

Abstract - Total Knee Replacement (TKR) is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing pain and improving knee joint function. However, the success of postoperative rehabilitation largely depends on patients’ adherence to physical exercise. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between adherence to physical exercise and improvement of joint function among post-TKR patients at the Orthopedic Clinic of Al Irsyad Hospital Surabaya. This research employed a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 post-TKR patients selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments were a physical exercise adherence questionnaire and the WOMAC Index to assess joint function. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed that most respondents demonstrated moderate to high adherence (63.3%). Bivariate analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between adherence to physical exercise and improvement of joint function, with r = 0.577 and p = 0.001 (p < 0.05). Higher adherence was associated with better joint function recovery. In conclusion, adherence to physical exercise plays a crucial role in accelerating recovery after TKR. The implication is that continuous patient education, family involvement, and adherence monitoring strategies are essential to optimize rehabilitation outcomes.
