Abstract
Abstract - The response time of critically ill patients' families in the Emergency Department (ED) is an important factor that determines the success of medical treatment. Delays in making decisions can have fatal consequences for the patient's condition, so effective and rapid communication methods are needed. Three-minute rapid education is a strategy for delivering brief, clear, and targeted information designed to accelerate the family's response in making medical decisions. This study aims to determine the effect of three-minute rapid education on reducing the response time of families of critically ill patients in the ER at Al-Irsyad Hospital in Surabaya. The study design used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test with a control group. The research sample consisted of families of critical patients divided into two groups: treatment and control. The treatment group received a 3-minute quick education intervention, while the control group received standard education according to hospital procedures. The results showed that in the control group, standard education did not have a significant effect with a p-value of 0.253 (p > 0.05). In contrast, the treatment group experienced a significant decrease in response time after receiving the 3-minute rapid education. The Mann-Whitney test yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect. Thus, the 3-minute rapid education was proven to be effective in accelerating the response time of critically ill patients' families in the ER and can be used as an alternative communication intervention to support fast and accurate emergency services. Keywords: 3-minute rapid education, response time, patient family, emergency department, emergency department.
