Abstract

Abstract - Emergency Boarding Time (EBT) is an important indicator for measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of services. Excessively long EBT can potentially lead to decreased quality of care, increased risk of complications, and patient dissatisfaction. The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between emergency boarding time and patient family satisfaction in the emergency department at Al Irsyad Hospital, Surabaya. The study design used a correlational cross-sectional approach. The study population was all patient families. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling, with a sample size of 76 respondents. The instruments used were the EBT observation sheet and the patient family satisfaction questionnaire. The statistical test used was the Spearman Rank Test. The results showed that the majority of EBT patients were in the fast category (60.5%), and almost all patient families were very satisfied (93.4%). The Spearman Rank Test yielded a p-value of 0.003, thus accepting H1, indicating a relationship between emergency boarding time and patient family satisfaction in the emergency department at Al Irsyad Hospital, Surabaya. The correlation coefficient value of 0.980 indicates a very strong and positive relationship between the variables. The faster the emergency boarding time, the greater the satisfaction of the patient's family. Families will be even more satisfied if the wait time in the emergency department is shorter. This may be due to the sometimes uncertain conditions in the emergency department regarding the patient's condition, which can impact the psychological well-being of the patient's family. Hospitals and emergency department management are expected to design more effective policies regarding the allocation of nursing staff and patient care to reduce EBT and increase family satisfaction. Keywords: emergency boarding time; satisfaction; family, emergency department
