Abstract

ABSTRACT A common problem in bronchitis was ineffective airway clearance due to excessive sputum production and sputum accumulating in the bronchi so that patients experience airway disorders. Sputum that accumulates due to the inability to clear secretions causes obstruction in the airways. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of chest physiotherapy (clapping) on sputum discharge in Bronchitis patients at RSUD Sumberglagah Mojokerto. The design of this study was was Quasy Experimental with the Control Group Pretest Posttest Design approach. The population in this study were all bronchitis patients at RSUD Sumberglagah Mojokerto in August 2024. Sampling used consecutive sampling techniques so that 30 samples were obtained. The research instrument was an observation sheet. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Sign Rank test and Mann Whitney. The results of the study suggested that sputum output before being given chest physiotherapy (clapping technique) averaged 12.5 cc and after being given chest physiotherapy (clapping technique) averaged 76 cc. Sputum output before being given nebulizer therapy averaged 13.33 cc, and after being given nebulizer therapy averaged 46.17 cc. There was an effect of chest physiotherapy (clapping technique) on the problem of sputum output in Bronchitis patients at Sumberglagah Hospital, Mojokerto Regency, as evidenced by the results of the Mann Whitney showing that pvalue = 0.000. The clapping technique helped release the remaining sputum attached to the walls of the respiratory tract after being diluted with a nebulizer, while respondents who only received nebulizer therapy only had sputum that was successfully diluted by the drug, while those still attached to the walls of the respiratory tract were not released.
