Abstract

Abstract - Excessive use of social media among adolescents can lead to digital addiction, which negatively affects physical health, mental well-being, and academic performance. This study aims to determine the effect of health education on proper social media use toward the level of social media addiction among eleventh-grade students at SMK YADIKA Bangil. The research employed a one-group pretest–posttest design with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 55 students selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument used was the Social Media Addiction Scale–Student Form (SMAS-SF). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that before the intervention, most students were in the moderate category (89%), which decreased to 80% after the intervention. The low category increased from 2% to 16%, while the high category decreased from 9% to 4%. The p-value of 0.0001 (<0.05) indicates a significant influence of health education on reducing social media addiction levels. Health education enhanced students’ awareness of the negative impacts of excessive social media use and encouraged behavioral changes toward more mindful usage. These findings suggest that school-based health education can serve as a promotive and preventive strategy to reduce social media addiction among adolescents. Keywords: health education, social media addiction, adolescents
