Abstract

ABSTRACT Sibling Rivalry is a competitive phenomenon that can be dangerous for a teenagers because it can made a jealous, competitive, and hatred towards their sibling. One of the factors of sibling rivalry is emotional intelligence. There are 65.4% of children who experience Sibling Rivalry. If this is continue, it can cause the low self-esteem, jealous of their siblings, curse and consider their siblings as opponents, and resulted in the severing of kinship ties if their parents died. This study aims to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence and sibling rivalry in early teens at MI Semesta Mojokerto. This study is a quantitative study and a type of Correlational Analytic research. The instruments used are the sibling rivalry scale and emotional intelligence. The population was 52 teenagers with the results of the sample calculation obtained 46 early teens using the purposive sampling technique. This study was conducted in August 2024. Of the 46 respondents, it showed that the majority of adolescents experienced sibling rivalry with a moderate category of 33 teenagers (71.74%), and the level of emotional intelligence with a moderate category of 36 teenagers (78.26%). Spearman's test shows ρ <α (0.05) which is 0.015, meaning there is a relationship between emotional intelligence and sibling rivalry. The coefficient value (r) = 0.358 indicates a positive moderate relationship, meaning the higher the emotional intelligence, the lower the sibling rivalry, although this relationship is not too strong. This study helps the teenagers increase their knowledge about the importance of managing their emotions and their thought, as well as improving communication with both siblings and parents to maintain good relationships between siblings.
