Abstract

Abstract Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that can potentially lead to long-term complications, including chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers. Wound healing in DM patients tends to be slower due to vascular disorders, neuropathy, and a weakened immune system. Nutritional status is a key factor influencing wound healing, yet this aspect is often overlooked in diabetic wound management. This study employed a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 44 diabetes mellitus patients with chronic wounds in the Lotus Room of Bhayangkara Hospital, Porong, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and observation sheets, then analyzed using the Spearman test The majority of respondents (25%, 56.8%) reported high levels of nutritional status and 26% (59.1%) reported rapid wound healing. The Spearman's rho test revealed a significant relationship between nutritional status and wound healing speed, with a p-value <0.05. This study indicates that patients with good nutritional status tend to experience faster wound healing than those with poor nutritional status. This confirms the important role of nutritional factors in tissue regeneration, immunity, and wound repair. Therefore, nutritional interventions should be an integral part of chronic wound management through a multidisciplinary approach, including routine nutritional status evaluations to improve the quality of care and shorten patient hospitalizations.
