Abstract
Abstract – Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem in toddlers that impacts physical growth, cognitive development, and the quality of future human resources. One factor contributing to stunting is parenting patterns. This study aims to determine the relationship between parenting patterns and stunting in toddlers aged 24–59 months in Tahunan Village, Tegalombo District, Pacitan Regency. This is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional approach. The study 4 population was all 105 mothers with toddlers aged 24–59 months, with a sample of 84 respondents selected using simple random sampling. The research instruments were a parenting questionnaire and toddler anthropometric data. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods using the Fisher’s Exact Test. The majority of respondents (54 respondents) practiced democratic parenting patterns. Based on the incidence of stunting, the majority of toddlers (59 respondents) did not experience stunting. The majority of respondents with a democratic parenting style (50 respondents) had toddlers without stunting, while a small proportion of respondents with a neglectful parenting style (3 respondents) had toddlers with stunting, amounting to 3 respondents (3.6%). The statistical test Fisher’s Exact Test results obtained a p-value of 0.000, indicating a relationship between parenting style and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24–59 months. Parenting style influences stunting because parents directly meet toddlers' basic needs, particularly nutrition, hygiene, health, stimulation, growth monitoring, and utilization of health services. Parents need to improve good parenting practices by providing nutritious food, monitoring growth, hygiene, and regularly utilizing integrated health posts (Posyandu).
