Abstract
Abstract– Menarche is the first sign of puberty which often causes anxiety among elementary school girls due to a lack of understanding, misinformation, and limited guidance from parents or teachers. Unmanaged anxiety may negatively affect students’ psychological readiness to experience their first menstruation. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education using audiovisual 4 media on the anxiety levels of students in facing menarche at SDN Suko 2 Sidoarjo. The research design was pre-experimental with a pretest and posttest with control group design. The study population included all fifth and sixth grade female students of SDN Suko 2 Sidoarjo, totaling 60 respondents in July 2025, while the sample consisted of 52 fourth and fifth grade students selected through simple random sampling in August 2025. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results showed that before audiovisual health education, most respondents experienced moderate anxiety, with 40 students (76.9%). After the intervention, the majority experienced mild anxiety, with 32 students (61.5%). The Wilcoxon test results indicated a Z value of-5.807 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05), confirming a significant difference between anxiety levels before and after audiovisual health education. These findings demonstrate that audiovisual-based health education is effective in reducing students’ anxiety. This result is consistent with previous literature stating that audiovisual media are more engaging and easier to understand for school-age children, thereby improving knowledge and reducing anxiety in facing menarche. Keywords: health education, audiovisual, anxiety, menarche, elementary students
