Abstract
Abstract-Pre operation is a process that can cause anxiety. Anxiety is an anticipatory response to an experience that could be perceived as a threat to its role in life, the integrity of the body, or even life itself. The body's response to anxiety can make it difficult to insert an intraocular lens during cataract surgery. One way to deal with anxiety is by using the Benson relaxation technique. The Benson relaxation technique is a relaxation technique that is combined with an element of belief that can increase the relaxation response more strongly than just relaxation techniques. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the Benson relaxation technique on anxiety in preoperative cataract patients at Brawijaya University Hospital Malang. This study design is pre experimental one group pre-post test design using simple random sampling and sample size was 21 participants.The study was conducted in January 2023. The results that most of the patients with cataract surgery before the Benson relaxation who experienced anxiety were the elderly with family support of 20 participants (100%) and after the Benson relaxation had decreased by 19 participants (95%). Based on statistical calculations Wilcoxon test with value (α = 0.05) significance level p value = 0.000. Obtaind results wicht is smaller than the value of significant level (0,000 < 0,05) then Ho is rejected, so there is the effectiveness of the Benson relaxation technique for anxiety in preoperative cataract patients at Brawijaya University Hospital Malang. So that Benson's relaxation can inhibit sympathetic nerve activity and make the muscles of the body relax. This relaxation can be used as an alternative treatment to reduce the anxiety level of pre cataract surgery patients. We recommend that the Benson relaxation technique be given to pre cataract patients with family support in the elderly . Keywords: Pre Operative, anxiety, relaxation techniques Benson.
