Abstract

Abstract - Cancellation of surgery also has an impact on the patient's psychological disorders, namely anxiety disorders and depression, requiring additional treatment. Preoperative anxiety is an anticipatory response to an experience that the patient considers to be a threat to his life role, body integrity, or even life itself. This study aims to determine the relationship between delaying surgery and preoperative patient anxiety at Wates Husada Balongpanggang Gresik Hospital. This research uses an observational analytical design approach cross sectional. The population in this study were all pre-operative patients at Wates Husada Hospital. Samples were taken using a simple random sampling method. The independent variable is cancellation of surgery and the dependent variable is preoperative anxiety. The data was then tested using the Spearman rho correlation. The research results showed that the majority of respondents did not experience delays in surgery, 30 people (76.9%) and more than half of the respondents experienced mild anxiety, 22 people (56.4%). The statistical test results showed p value = 0.000 ≤ α = 0.05, which means there is a relationship between cancellation of surgery and the pre-operative anxiety level of patients at Wates Husada Balongpanggang Gresik Hospital. From statistical testing, a correlation coefficient was also obtained of -0.599, which means there is a strong correlation with a negative correlation direction. It can be concluded that the less you experience delays, the lighter the level of anxiety experienced. Patients and nurses should be able to anticipate psychological impacts such as anxiety that arises as a result of canceling surgical procedures. Or even minimize the incidence of operation cancellations. Keywords: Operation cancellation, anxiety, pre-operation
