Abstract

Abstract - Adherence to medication is an important factor in the management of chronic diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Lack of compliance can lead to serious complications that impact the patient's quality of life. This study aims to determine the effect of alarm-based medication reminder programs on medication adherence in DM patients. The study used a quantitative method with a quasi experiment pretest-posttest design without a control group. The research sample consisted of 30 DM patients who underwent outpatient treatment at Al-Islam H.M. Mawardi Hospital. The instrument used was in the form of compliance observation sheets before and after the intervention. The intervention provided was an alarm based medication reminder program for 7 days. The results showed that before the intervention, the majority of respondents (70%) were in the non-compliant category. After the intervention, all respondents (100%) showed compliance. A statistical test using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test showed a significant difference between adherence before and after the intervention (p = 0.000). These results suggest that alarm-based reminder programs significantly improve medication adherence in DM patients. Concluded that the use of simple technology such as alarms can be an effective intervention in improving the treatment adherence of DM patients in healthcare facilities.
