Abstract
ABSTRACT Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease requiring long-term therapy, with medication adherence being a key factor in preventing complications. However, adherence is often influenced by patients’ knowledge, perception, and motivation. This study aims to determine factors related to medication adherence in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients at the Bangsal Community Health Center, Mojokerto Regency. This study employed a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 101 patients at Bangsal Primary Health Center, Mojokerto Regency, were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires on knowledge, perception, motivation, and medication adherence. Spearman’s Rank Correlation Test was applied for analysis. The study results showed that most respondents had poor knowledge (73.3%), high perception (56.5%), high motivation (59.4%), and high compliance (66.3%). The analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge and compliance (r=0.223; p=0.025), perception and compliance (r=0.219; p=0.028), and motivation and compliance (r=0.273; p=0.006). Patients with better knowledge will have higher medication adherence. The r value of 0.20–0.39 in the Spearman Rank test indicates a weak correlation. Knowledge, perception, and motivation are important determinants in improving medication adherence, therefore educational interventions, the formation of positive perceptions, and motivational support from healthcare professionals and families are needed. Nurses' educational role in providing information about type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly regarding the importance of medication adherence, needs to be improved. Nurses can use a simple therapeutic communication approach that is easy for patients and their families to understand. Keyword: Anxiety reduction, Anxiety, Children, Immunization
