Abstract

Hypertension in pregnancy is a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Failure to maintain a hypertension diet can lead to increased blood pressure, which can lead to ongoing symptoms in target organs. This study aimed to determine the effect of implementing the DASH diet on blood pressure in pregnant hypertension. This research method employed a quantitative approach and a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study was all 40 pregnant women with hypertension, and the sample size was 36. Analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test with a significance level of 0.05. The results of the study showed that most respondents had grade 1 hypertension before starting the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet. Almost all respondents had normal blood pressure after starting the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet. Data analysis revealed an effect of implementing the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet on blood pressure in patients with gestational hypertension at Assakinah Medika General Hospital, Sidoarjo. This study provides an alternative non pharmacological intervention in the management of gestational hypertension based on scientific evidence. It is hoped that researchers can develop their findings for daily application in their profession, particularly in providing pregnancy care, especially to pregnant women with hypertension.
