Abstract
Abstract - Ineffective breathing patterns remain a serious challenge in nursing practice, especially in patients with respiratory disorders. This problem leads to decreased oxygen saturation. Efforts to increase SpO₂ require more than just oxygen therapy; strategies that support physiological lung function are also required. The proning technique offers a safe, effective, and easy-to-implement alternative in various clinical conditions characterized by ineffective breathing patterns. This study aimed to determine the effect of the proning technique on increasing oxygen saturation in patients with ineffective breathing patterns at Al Irsyad Hospital, Surabaya. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study was all 48 patients with ineffective breathing patterns in July 2025, with a sample of 25 patients using consecutive sampling. The independent variable was the proning technique and the dependent variable was oxygen saturation. The instruments used included a proning intervention observation sheet, a pulse oximeter, a data collection form, and an informed consent form. The data analysis technique used was the Wilcoxon test with a p-value ≤ 0.05. The results of the study showed that after the proning technique, the majority of patients experienced an increase in oxygen saturation, reaching the normal range (95–100%). Bivariate statistical tests using the Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05), indicating a significant effect of the proning technique on increasing oxygen saturation in patients with ineffective breathing patterns at Al-Irsyad Hospital, Surabaya. Keywords: Proning Technique, Oxygen Saturation, Ineffective Breathing Pattern
