Abstract
ABSTRACT Cesarean section delivery is a medical procedure that may cause both physical and psychological impacts on mothers. One of the most common psychological disorders is postpartum blues, characterized by mood changes such as frequent crying, anxiety, and difficulty adapting during the puerperium period. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports the prevalence of postpartum blues in Asia at 26–85%, while in Indonesia it ranges between 50–70%. Family support is considered a protective factor that can reduce the risk of postpartum blues. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between family support and the risk of postpartum blues in post-cesarean section patients at the maternity ward of Eka Husada Hospital, Gresik. Family support in this study includes emotional, informational, instrumental, and appraisal support provided to mothers after delivery. This research applied a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 15 post-cesarean section mothers, selected using a total sampling technique. Research instruments included a family support questionnaire and a postpartum blues questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test, and the strength of the relationship was measured using Phi and Contingency Coefficients. The results showed that most respondents received good family support (53.3%), and the majority did not experience postpartum blues (86.6%). The Chi-Square test yielded χ² = 4.98 with p = 0.026 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between family support and postpartum blues. The Phi coefficient (φ) = 0.576 indicated a moderate–strong relationship, while the Contingency Coefficient (C) = 0.499 indicated a moderate relationship. In conclusion, better family support is associated with a lower risk of postpartum blues. The role of the family, especially the husband, is essential in providing emotional support, practical assistance, and involvement in maternal and infant care.
