Abstract

ABSTRACT Patient satisfaction is a key determinant of the quality of hospital care. Researching patient and family satisfaction is crucial because it reflects the quality of interactions between healthcare professionals and patients, as well as the effectiveness of the care process in the emergency department (ED). This study aimed to determine the effect of audiovisual education on patient family satisfaction in the ED of West Sidoarjo Regional Hospital. The study used a two group post-test design. There were 100 respondents in each intervention and control group. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U-test to determine the differences between audiovisual education and hospital standard operating procedures (SOPs). The results showed that 26 respondents (52%) in the intervention group were very satisfied, while 35 respondents (70%) in the control group were mostly satisfied. The statistical test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect of audiovisual education on patient family satisfaction in the ED of West Sidoarjo Regional Hospital. Hospitals are expected to provide education to patients' families while they are in the emergency room using audiovisual media and to develop Standard Operating Procedures for education using audiovisual media.
