Abstract

ABSTRACT Stroke is the leading cause of disability in people over 45 years of age. Approximately 70%-80% of stroke patients experience hemiparesis (muscle weakness on one side of the body), with 20% experiencing improved motor function and approximately 50% experiencing residual symptoms in the form of impaired motor function/muscle weakness in the extremities if not treated appropriately through nursing interventions and post-stroke rehabilitation. This study aims to determine the effect of mirror therapy on muscle strength in stroke patients. The method used in this study was a quasi-experimental method. The sample size for experimental research, according to Bay and Diehl, is a minimum of 15 respondents, drawn from an average of 30 stroke patients in one month. Therefore, 15 respondents were selected for the intervention group and 15 respondents for the control group. This study was conducted in August 2025. Based on the Mann-Whitney statistical test, analyzing the results of muscle strength after mirror therapy in the intervention group and muscle strength in the control group without mirror therapy, a significance value (p) of 0.023 was obtained, indicating that mirror therapy had an effect on muscle strength in stroke patients in the Gedeg Community Health Center (Puskesmas UPTD). Therefore, mirror therapy can be administered to all stroke patients at the Gedeg Community Health Center UPTD who experience hemiparesis and decreased strength through the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) program.
